ProbeQuest(tm) Systems
The ProbeQuest systems designed for Search and Rescue operations provide video images and sounds into such inaccessible sites as abandoned mines, collapsed buildings and underwater. Each system includes an IR camera probe with microphone and heads-up display for ergonomic use. The gooseneck ProbeQuests (2.3 and 1.0 inch diameter) are manipulated to snake through rubble and other inaccessible locations. The fiberoptic probe is used for even smaller openings of 5/16 inches. The AquaProbe allows viewing of up to 10 feet in fresh or saltwater, depending upon water clarity. The CavityProbe has a 360 degree camera rotation with built-in Mic, and is specifically designed for surveying abandoned mine shafts, wells and other inaccessible disaster sites.
Each system includes
The 7.0 Amp-hr battery pack operates for 10 hours without recharging and includes a charger. The HMD provides images and hands-free, ergonomic use of the probe.
ProbeQuest Extensions
STI video probes are all interchangeable, and each system uses the same battery interface and HMD configuration. Purchase of one system allows the user to acquire additional camera sensor extensions at less than the full system price. The sensors share the same HMD and battery interface. These ProbeQuest video cameras are available as extensions:
- ProbeQuest F/O: 5/16 inch dia., 2 feet long
- ProbeQuest 1: 1.0 inch dia., 3 meters long
- ProbeQuest 2: 2.3 inches dia., 3 meters long
- AquaProbe: 10 feet standard rod length

- Adjustable brightness
- Contrast, tint, color and sharpness controls
- Stereo audio
- Weight: 8 oz.
- Accepts composite or S-Video inputs
Audio Pickup
The down-hole microphone placed inside the probe head relays sounds inside the nest to the HMD. This can be documented on the VCR and uses a separate track from the dictation recorded via the Narrator's Headset. This is a standard feature in the Cavity Probe, and an option for the ProbeQuest 2. Not available for smaller probes (PQ1 and PQ-FO).
Narrator's Headset
The Narrator's Headset is attached to the Head Mounted Display (HMD) and allows the user to narrate real-time onto the videotape. This is recorded on a separate track from the audio pickup. Requires Sony GV-D900 Digital VCR Kit and one of these HMD systems: ProbeQuest FO, ProbeQuest 1, ProbeQuest 2, AquaProbe and Cavity Probe.
Gooseneck: Increase to 4 meters
The standard gooseneck length for the ProbeQuest 1 and ProbeQuest 2 is three meters, and can be extended to four meters. This option must be ordered when the probe is ordered.
